His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, affirmed that the constitutional and legislative amendments aim to strengthen national unity and ensure equal citizenship in rights and duties.
In a post on his official account on the “X” platform, His Highness emphasized that equality before the law is the foundation of a modern state and a legal, moral, and constitutional duty. This principle strengthens social cohesion and fulfills the community’s aspirations.
The Shura Council held its first session of the fourth regular session of the first legislative term, chaired by His Excellency Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, the Speaker of the Council. During the session, Decree No. 71 of 2024, which called for this meeting, was read aloud.
Nominations for the presidency of the council’s six committees were opened, and the committee heads were elected by acclamation, reflecting adherence to the new internal regulations. The council also discussed the draft constitutional amendments submitted by the Amiri Diwan and decided to form a special committee to study the project and submit its report to the council.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of Interior and Commander of “Lekhwiya,” stated on X that the Emir’s speech reflects a deep vision for upcoming reforms, safeguarding Qatar’s societal values and Shura tradition. He emphasized the importance of continuing progress under the Emir’s leadership to ensure national unity, justice, and equality.
Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, expressed her appreciation for the guidance contained in the Emir’s speech in a statement to QNA. She emphasized that the directives represent a roadmap for the Council’s work aimed at achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Al-Sulaiti emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Council and the government to achieve transparency and enhance citizens’ well-being. She noted that the Council continues to develop its legislative framework and monitor all issues on its agenda.
H.E. Maryam bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee, praised the speech for affirming equality before the law, highlighting it as a key achievement in Qatar’s human rights efforts and reflecting the nation’s commitment to advancing these rights locally and globally.
