In its weekly meeting, the Qatari Cabinet approved a draft decision by the Minister of Commerce and Industry setting the working hours framework for commercial, industrial, and similar public establishments. According to Qatar News Agency, this decision is part of implementing Law No. (5) of 2015, which regulates the operations of commercial and industrial stores as well as street vendors.
The project aims to enhance the monitoring and supervision of all stores and regulate working hours to ensure the availability of services and products at specified times. This will contribute to market organization, prevent unfair competition between different stores, and protect workers’ rights by improving working conditions. Thus, work efficiency and productivity will be enhanced, ultimately supporting the national economy.
Additionally, the council agreed to take the necessary steps to ratify the protocol, amending the agreement between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway regarding avoiding double taxation and preventing tax evasion on income taxes. This agreement, signed in Oslo on June 29, 2009, aims to improve financial cooperation between the two nations.
The council approved a draft decision to restructure the Climate Change and Clean Development Committee as part of climate change mitigation efforts. This project aims to develop a comprehensive national plan in alignment with Qatar’s efforts to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
The council also endorsed a draft decision by the Minister of Municipality outlining the conditions and regulations for conducting tourism activities on registered farms.
