Qatar Strengthens Its International Legal Presence Through The Hague

The city of The Hague witnessed a new step toward enhancing international legal cooperation today, as the State of Qatar officially submitted its request to join the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH). The accession documents were delivered during an official protocol ceremony that reflected the significance of the occasion and its international relevance.

His Excellency Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, handed over the official accession documents to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the designated authority for receiving requests to join the Hague Conference on Private International Law.

The handover ceremony took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in The Hague, in the presence of several senior Dutch officials and members of the Qatari Embassy, with the formal atmosphere underscoring the importance of this step within diplomatic and legal circles.

In his remarks during the ceremony, His Excellency the Ambassador emphasized that Qatar views this accession as a strategic move to strengthen international legal cooperation, support peace efforts, and promote justice.

He added that Qatar regards international legal frameworks as essential tools for fostering economic development and enhancing mutual understanding between nations.

His Excellency also highlighted the significance of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, established in 1893, stressing its historic role in building legal bridges between states and contributing to the development of an international legal system based on mutual understanding and respect.

For his part, His Excellency Mr. Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, welcomed Qatar’s accession, praising the move as one that will enhance the implementation of private international law agreements both regionally and internationally.

He affirmed that Qatar’s accession would represent a valuable addition to the Conference’s ongoing mission of developing and harmonizing private international law rules among member states.

Qatar’s move to join the Hague Conference on Private International Law reflects Doha’s continued commitment to enhancing international legal cooperation and solidifying its position as a nation that supports the rule of law and global justice.

The Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to unifying the rules of private international law.

Its work covers areas such as family and child protection, cross-border litigation, and international commercial law.
